My name is Amber and that is my husband, Juan.
Together we work Simply Freeze Dried.
Our story is a little long, a little scary, and hopefully, a little inspiring.
We are Marine Corps veterans who decided to come to Bakersfield after Juan was recruited by a local oil company. We settled in, started growing our family, worked hard, bought a house, and lived life.
Then one day, Juan had an accident that left him with a severe TBI, aphasia, and epilepsy.
In an instant, our lives went from the “American Dream” to a living nightmare.
For the past four years, our family has experienced tons of medical emergencies, months of hospitalizations, insurance fiascos, and financial issues that make me sick to think about.
Along our journey, we’ve met other people like us, and we’ve learned a little bit about a lot of things. Our ultimate goal is to create a foundation where we can provide support to other individuals and families who have experienced traumatic brain injuries. We want to be a source of inspiration and support, the hand to hold and shoulder to lean on, the ones who can help make sense of the insurance, help with medical bills and supplies, take care of the house/family/dog, get the laundry done, maybe even provide a moment of respite where the family can just be a family instead of The Ones That Thing Happened To.
That goal is a bit of a ways off right now. But in the meantime, we’ve decided to start this business from our kitchen to help pay for medical needs, but also, to find a way to give to others.
This is us. Fighting forward. Rising from the ashes.
